Week 6 Practical: Design Perspectives
This weeks design practical involved us selecting our favourite 3D design idea, and drafting and labeling two variations of this design to the following brief:
- Design 01: Design in a style that appeals to a community sports group
- Design 02: Design in a style that appeals to a fashion label
- Draft in your blog with hand drawings and notes
- Give each work a NAME and DESCRIPTION (max 50 words)
Design Idea 1:
As I will be making a dress for my 3D design, I have decided to design a tennis outfit as it meets the criteria of 'appealing to a community group'. Please see below:
Name: Lycra-wanda
Description: This design is breathable as it is made out of Lycra which allows this garment to be lightweight, breathable and quick drying. This will assist with sweat reduction. It is also semi-backless, whitch again assists keeping the design breathable and cool. The design incorporates hidden support around the bust by a built in support (from the way the garment is sewn). The way the garment is crosses at the back further assists with support to the bust. The colours black and fluro green give it a contemporary edge. The garment has a zipper which has been placed there for asthetic appeal as well as functionality. Easy access on and off ;-) The design has shorts which is more practical for a sports person over a skirt.
Design Idea 2:
This design idea will appeal to a fashion label. I have utilized the same design concept from the above design, but adapted it to more of a contemporary fashion garment.
Name: Kay La Vi Designs - By Kath Harvey :-) Designs from the Field...
Description: This dress is made out of a thick elastane/cotton fabric. It has a silk sheen to it intimating lycra (Lycra wouldn't work for this dress design as the fabric is too thin). The design is different to the tennis outfit as it has a is a dress rather than a body suit. It still incorporates the front zipper as well as the built in support with the addition of built in padding around the bust for the extra touch (as the fabric is stretch and will flatten the chest so the dress design has that sexy edge to it hahaha) See Dress design below.
Group Exercise: Design Perspectives
For this exercise the group was asked to rate your two designs on a scale of 1 - 10 based on the following criteria:
1. Accuracy in addressing the brief
2. Immediate visual appeal
3. Cross generational appeal
4. Artistic depth
I will wait to see what scores I get from the group and post them when I receive comments.
The following is a clip of a new tennis outfit design by Adidas. This design incorporates three similarities to my design:
1. Breathable fabric;
2. built in support for the bust;
3. body suit (this Adidas incorporates a skirt over the top to make the dress more feminine); and
4. Bright yellow (season trend is bring pinks, purples, oranges and greens)
Katherine,
ReplyDeleteYou’ve done a great job on the blogs to date, but have not completed:

Next week is the last before the mid semester break.
Considering your late start I’m giving an extension to

Please advise if this is not a reasonable extension.
